About the Author

Noel McGrath grew up in the Melbourne suburb of Mount Waverley.

From the age of 14 he played guitar and sang in a succession of bands including the Vampires, the Fugitives and the All Stars. At the age of seventeen he adopted the stage name Shane Harley and recorded for the Festival Label with the All Stars.

After successfully completing year 12, he enrolled at Swinburne Institute of Technology as a part-time student and embarked on a five year course resulting in a Degree of Business Studies majoring in sociology, accounting, psychology and economics. During this period he also worked in sales and business management and continued to perform with a variety of pop/rock bands.

In October, 1978 Noel's first commercially successful book, 'The Australian Encyclopaedia of Rock', was released via a massive, Australia-wide media campaign.

This led to a career in radio (3KZ-Gold FM, 3DB-TT FM and 3MP) and television ('Peter Couchman Show', Ten Network) as a rock historian.
From 1986-1989 Noel worked as the Communications Manager for the Australian Bicentennial Authority.

In November 1988 Noel's fifth book, 'Ultimate Success' was released. It represented a change of direction from music to the field of personal development. 'Ultimate Success' completely re-defined the concept of success and it captured the attention of both the media and readers all over Australia. It provided Noel with his second top-ten best-seller peaking at number six on the charts.

From 1990 to 2010 he continued to write with more recent releases including 'Getting Younger' (2003) which focused on the possibility of reversing the ageing process.

Throughout this period Noel has also maintained a steady stream of engagements as a speaker, teacher and writer in the fields of business and personal development. His charity work has included counselling for teenagers and support for people with drug and alcohol problems.

Noel McGrath's latest release, 'The Real Reason You're Overweight', examines the psychological, metaphysical, sociological and scientific reasons for weight gain. It is based, in part, on principles outlined in his earlier books such as 'Respect Yourself' (1990) but also utilises the very latest research. 'The Real Reason You're Overweight' is Noel's 16th release.
